Snoring Prevention and Sleep Apnea

Have you been told that you snore a little or a lot? Did anyone ever tell you that you gasp, choke and struggle for air while you sleep? We may be able to help you get a better night’s sleep and feel better during the day.

Snoring and “sleep apnea,” the name of a medical condition wherein a person stops breathing temporarily during sleep, occur because the muscles in the back of the throat loosen too much while a person sleeps. This collapses the tissues around the throat and the airway is partly or, at times, fully obstructed. The tongue may slip to the back of the throat and no air can pass.

When you can’t get enough air during sleep, your entire body is stressed. This stress disrupts your sleep and contributes to severe illnesses like diabetes and heart disease. The sooner this condition can be alleviated, the better.

Our Treatment

If you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea, we will fit you with an oral appliance to hold your jaw forward during sleep. For many patients, simply advancing the lower jaw bone can open the airway and enable a person to breathe more freely at night. If you suspect you have sleep apnea but have not yet been diagnosed, we can help there, too

We do more than just see to the health of your teeth. We can help with these snoring and breathing problems as well.
