Root Canals

The idea of root canal therapy makes some people apprehensive, but in the hands of our gentle and skilled dentists, it need not worry you. We make sure you are fully numb before beginning any treatment and will make sure you understand the procedure before we start.

How is root canal therapy done? We first open the top of the tooth so we can gain access to the inside of the tooth. This step is much like starting a filling.

We then clean out and sterilize the canals that reach all the way to the root. The tooth’s blood and nerve supply travels through these canals but if the tooth needs a root canal, the blood and nerve supply has been damaged or destroyed.

We fill the canals with sterile material and close up the top of the tooth. We recommend a crown for this tooth to strengthen it so it can last for many more years.

A tooth that needs a root canal may be painful or the live inner tissue may have died and there may be no pain.
