Dental Implants: Benefits
Dental implants are a revolutionary way to replace missing teeth. At the Dental & Implant Center in Edgewater, Dr. Suh and his staff offer expert implant treatments that can benefit your oral health, function, and appearance. Here are a few key advantages of dental implants.
Natural Feel and Look
Dental implants are made to look and feel like natural teeth. They act as tooth roots and provide a stable base for a crown made to blend seamlessly with the surrounding teeth. Dental implants are more secure and comfortable than other tooth replacement options.
Long-Lasting Solutions
Dental implants are a durable and cost-effective option when properly maintained. They are made of high-quality titanium, which integrates into your jawbone via a process known as osseointegration. The implant will remain in place and can withstand daily pressures from chewing and talking.
Preserving the health of your jawbone
Dental implants can prevent bone loss. This is one of their most important advantages. The surrounding bone starts to deteriorate when a tooth is lost due to a lack of stimulation. Dental implants are designed to mimic the root of a natural tooth and stimulate your jawbone. This prevents the sunken look that is often associated with tooth loss.
Improved oral function
With dental implants, you can enjoy improved speech and restored chewing ability. Dental implants are more stable than traditional dentures, which can slip or cause discomfort. You can eat and speak with confidence without having to worry about slipping.
Self-Confidence Enhanced
Missing teeth can significantly impact your self-esteem and even affect how you smile. Dental implants are a natural-looking solution that can restore your self-confidence. Your implants will look and feel like your natural teeth, so you can smile, eat, and speak with confidence.
Easy maintenance
Dental implants are easy to maintain. No special adhesives or cleaning products are needed since you will maintain your implants like your natural teeth: by brushing, flossing, and visiting your dentist regularly. Dental implants are a long-term solution for tooth replacement because of their ease of maintenance and durability.
- They look, feel and act like natural teeth.
- They need no special treatment: just brushing and flossing plus cleanings and examinations at our office, like your natural teeth
- They help maintain the sturdiness of the bone in the jaw
- They can be used not only as tooth replacements but also as secure support for bridges or dentures
How Are Dental Implants Done?
Dental implants are performed with great care and precision at the Dental & Implant Center Edgewater to achieve optimal results. Each stage is designed to ensure the implant integrates correctly and forms a solid foundation for your new teeth.
The first step is to ensure that the teeth and gums are healthy and that there is sturdy bone in the area to receive an implant. Then
the procedure goes as follows:
- The gum is opened and a slender post is placed in the jaw. This post—the implant—is made from titanium and will act as the root for the replacement tooth.
- The titanium implant is allowed to heal for three months or more. In this time, the titanium will bond with the bone in the jaw.
- When healing is complete, the replacement tooth will be securely attached to the top of the implant.
Initial Consultation
Consultation with Dr. Suh. We will conduct a comprehensive exam during this visit. This may include digital X-rays to assess your jawbone health and the teeth around it. Ideal candidates are those with healthy gums and enough jawbone density.
A bone graft can be performed before the implant is placed if bone loss due to tooth loss has been prolonged. This will ensure that the jawbone can support the implant.
Implant Placement Surgery
The next step in the treatment is implant placement. This is a minor surgery in which the titanium implant is placed into the jawbone. The titanium is biocompatible and will naturally fuse with your bone, creating a solid base for the replacement teeth.
Local anesthesia will be used during the procedure to keep you comfortable and free of pain. The incision will be stitched shut, and the healing process will begin.
Osseointegration & Healing
It is important that the healing period after implant placement be successful. The osseointegration process takes place over the next few weeks when the implant bonds with the jawbone and forms a strong permanent bond. This ensures the implant will act like a real tooth root and that it will provide a strong foundation for the replacement teeth.
Dr. Suh will monitor your healing progress closely to ensure that it is going well.
Placement of Abutment
Attaching the abutment is the next step after osseointegration. The abutment, which is a small connector that holds the custom crown in position, is what we call a small connector. The gums will heal around the implant abutment to create a natural look.
Custom Crown Placement
The final step is placing the crown. The crown is then attached to the abutment, completing your dental implant.
The result is an aesthetically pleasing, fully functional tooth replacement that seamlessly blends with your smile. The custom crowns are durable and designed to resist the forces of chewing, allowing you to maintain normal oral function.
Our Dental Areas of Expertise
Bone Grafting
Infection Prevention with Platelet-Rich Fibrin
When we separate out this component and add it to an area where a tooth has been extracted, there’s less chance of developing dry socket and
its painful problems. Healing is faster and the body can more easily prevent infection in the area.
We also use this procedure after dental implants are placed to improve integration of the implant with bone. When added to an extraction site, PRF helps the body rebuild strong, sturdy bone faster.
